HIGHLIGHTS FOR SEASON 2003/04

HIGHLIGHTS FOR BELVEDERE FOOTBALL CLUB FOR SEASON 2003/2004:

 

JULY 2003:

Belvedere Under 16 team win St.Andrews (Scotland) football tournament.

 

AUGUST 2003:

Irish Under 17’s draw with Slovakia 2-2, defeat Israel 4-2 and also beat Hungary 4-0 in their section of eight Nation Tournament in Hungary. Ireland win Tournament by defeating Czech Republic in the Final. ROSS GAYNOR and MARK KEANE play in all four games.

 

Irish Under 19’s defeat Norway 2-0 and 3-0 in two Friendly Internationals in Dublin. DEREK TYRRELL, GARY MULLIGAN and MARK QUIGLEY play in both games. Of the five goals scored Gary scored two with Mark and Derek getting one each.

 

Irish Under 21 team defeat Poland 5-1 in away friendly International. STEPHEN ELLIOTT, STEPHEN KELLY, WESLEY HOOLAHAN and STEPHEN CAPPER all play. Stephen Elliott scores a hat-trick and Wesley Hoolahan one.

 

Irish Under 18 team were beaten 0-2 by the Czech Republic in an eight Nation Tournament in the Czech Republic. They subsequently beat Slovakia 2-0 but lose the last Group game 0-1 to Sweden. GERARD NASH and NIALL FLYNN play in all three games, TERRY MASTERSON plays against Czechs and Sweden while MARK SHERIDAN plays aginst Czechs and STUART HYLAND plays against Slovakia.

 

 

SEPT 2003:

Irish Under 20’s defeat Czech Republic 3-0 in friendly International in Dublin. STEPHEN ELLIOTT plays and scores one.

 

STEPHEN KELLY, THOMAS BUTLER and STEPHEN ELLIOTT all play in Irish Under 21’s 2-0 victory over Russia in European Championship game in Waterford.

 

 

Irish Under 16 team defeat Austria 1-0 in Dublin in friendly International. STEPHEN HENDERSON, KEITH TREACY and TIMMY PURCELL play.

 

Irish Under 16 team draw 1-1 away to Wales in friendly International. STEPHEN HENDERSON, KEITH TREACY and TIMMY PURCELL all play.

 

European under 19 Champioship mini-group held in San Marino. Ireland draw 1-1 with Bulgaria, defeat San Marino 10-1 and finally beat Lithuania 2-1 to win the Group and qualify for the next stage. MARK QUIGLEY plays in all three games, KARL BERMINGHAM in the two against San Marino and Lithuania while GARY MULLIGAN plays against Bulgaria.

OCTOBER 2003:

Irish Under 16’s play two friendly games away to Northern Ireland drawing 0-0 and losing 0-1. KEITH TREACY and TIM PURCELL play in both. STEPHEN HENDERSON plays in first game.

 

Three Belvedere players star in the Irish Under 21 team’s 2-0 victory away to Switzerland in European Under 21 Championship. They are STEPHEN KELLY, WESLEY HOOLAHAN and STEPHEN ELLIOTT.

 

Seventeen year old GERARD NASH makes his first team debut for Ipswich Town in First Division game against Burnley.

 

Irish Under 17’s lose 1-2 to Austria in first game of UEFA Under 17 Championship four team mini-group being played in Switzerland. They subsequently beat Belarus 1-0 but lose 0-2 to Switzerland, finishing fourth. MARK KEANE and ROSS GAYNOR play against Austria.

Ireland’s Under 20’s defeat Italy 2-0 in friendly International in Dublin. DARYL MCMAHON and GERARD ROWE both play.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

NOVEMBER 2003:

Irish Under 20 team play Paraguay in friendly game in Dublin and lose 0-1. STEPHEN KELLY, STEPHEN CAPPER and STEPHEN ELLIOTT play.

 

DECEMBER 2003:

 

Ireland beat Saudi Arabia 2-1 in first Group game in World Under 20 Cup finals in United Arab Emirates. STEPHEN KELLY, STEPHEN CAPPER and STEPHEN ELLIOTT play. Stephen Elliott scores both of Ireland’s goals.

 

Ireland draw 2-2 with Ivory Coast in second group game. STEPHEN ELLIOTT scores again while STEPHEN KELLY and STEPHEN CAPPER also play.

 

Ireland win their Group in Under 20 World Cup by defeating Mexico 2-0 in their third game. STEPHEN KELLY, STEPHEN CAPPER and STEPHEN ELLIOTT all play again with Stephen Kelly scoring a goal.

 

Columbia defeat Ireland 3-2 (Golden Goal) in last 16 game in World U.20 Championship to knock them out of Tournament. STEPHEN ELLIOTT and STEPHEN CAPPER both play. Other Belvedere player STEPHEN KELLY missed game through picking up two yellow cards in previous matches.

 

Dublin and District Under 15 Representative team defeat Belfast 2-0 in annual Challenge game. STEPHEN HENDERSON, JAMES O’SULLIVAN, TIMMY PURCELL and KEITH TREACY all play.

 

Irish Under 19’s draw 3-3 with France in away friendly game. KARL BERMINGHAM, GARY MULLIGAN and MARK QUIGLEY all play with Gary Mulligan scoring a goal.

 

MARK QUIGLEY makes his first team competitive debut for Millwall by appearing as a sub in 0-0 home draw with Ipswich.

 

STEPHEN KELLY makes his Premiership debut for Tottenham Hotspur against Charlton by playing the full game.

 

FEBRUARY 2004:

 

ROSS GAYNOR plays for Irish Under 17 team in two 1-1 draws with Italy and Spain in four Nation Tournament held in Gran Canaria, Spain. Ireland lose last game against hosts Gran Canaria 0-1, both ROSS GAYNOR and SCOTT WEIR play in this game.

 

Irish Under 15’s play two games against Wales in Dublin. GARRY BREEN and DAVID CONNOLLY play in first game. PAUL CAHILLANE plays in second game. Ireland win 2-0 and draw 0-0.
