MISERY HILL

This is the present state of Misery Hill. Misery Hill is on the south side of the Liffey. This is where the municipal hangings took place and in addition was the location of the city’s leper colony. I guess the workers at present working there get paid extra for working in the city’s old leper colony.

This was was also the site for over 200 years of the generation of gas from coal for the city. This left residues and the 22 acre site is being “remediated” by the removal of the soil which is being exported to Belgium. So It is not only pharmaceuticals and electronics the “Celtic tiger “exports. To the left of the picture are the remains of Misery Hill, to the right of the picture is the IFSC which is across the Liffey.
