6 nights of
concerts recorded at The Point Theatre Dublin, featuring top Irish acts
including The Chieftains, Clannad, Mary Black, Christy Moore, Sinéad
O'Connor, Brian Kennedy, Maura O'Connell, DeDannan, Sharon Shannon and
Riverdance.
A modular staging arrangement was necessary to allow for a quick turnaround
of performers and instruments as upto 6 different acts were featured each
night.
The upstage tiers of the centre rostrum arrangement trucked up and offstage
past the moveable wings, alternately solid and gauze, which framed the
performance area in an asymmetric parabolic sweep.
Between the wing flats on both side of the stage open staircases provided
elevated entrances and served as foreground for side-on crane movements.
A series of gauze banners were flown upstage, broken by gobo lighting,
to provide backing. These were occasionally alternated with an internally
lit moon piece.
Above the stage hung a double ceiling piece designed to break the line
of the backing elements in wider head-on shots and to provide interest
in the closer low-angle shots from either side.
The floor of the Point stage was clad in neoprene-supported MDF, tongue
and grooved to provide a seamless finish for tracking of pedestal cameras
and a suitable surface for the performance of excerpts from Riverdance.
