Adult and Continuing Education
The aim of the Adult Education Service of County Kilkenny VEC is
to provide and develop as many quality educatioinal opportunities
as possible in Kilkenny, city and county, and to enable adult
students to avail of one of these. The service seeks to encourage
those who wish to return to education for a second chance or to
further enhance their current qualifications.
The Adult Education Service provides the
following programmes: -
- Evening Classes:
short nine week courses to Certificate, Diploma and
Degree level in a variety of subject areas at schools and
centres throuhout County Kilkenny.
- Literacy Provision
- Word Aid - Co. Kilkenny Adult Learning Service:
provides one-to-one indivdual and group tuition for
adults with reading and writing difficulties. This
service is free and confidential. Work Aid Centre, No. 9

- Vocational Training
Opportunities Scheme (VTOS): a second chance
education and training programme for those who are over
21 years of age and in receipt of a social welfare
payment. V.T.O.S. Centre, Bishop Birch Training

- Youthreach: an
educational and training programme for early school
leavers which combines a practical, academic and social
skills course for young people between 15 to 17 years of
age. Kilkenny Youthreach, Ossory Youth, Desart Hall, New
Street, Kilkenny. Tel: (056) 23550.
- Community Education
Initiatives: in association with both voluntary
/ community & statutory groups, this programme
provides education and training for specific needs.
